A huge thank you to the National Churches Trust and all our donors.
As a result of such generosity we are now in position to go forward with the repair and this will take place from 24th September 2025 for 6 - 8 weeks. The roofs to be completely reroofed are :
The Vestry Roof which really does leak a lot and has some beams which are rotten and need replacing (after 100 years no less). Luckily these are large soft wood beams not oak so the cost will not be prohibitive.. The roof itself is lead and will need completely replacing and is porous now.
The larger roof which needs re-tiling is the adjacent Lady Chapel Roof which hopefully may be just that - re- tiling. However, the initial survey could not examine the beams under the tiles and we do not know whether these are oak. We think they probably are. If this is so then because they will be hard wood hopefully nothing will need replacing. Nonetheless if there are problems with rot we have to face that.
So it is a double thankyou to our Donors that we are now able to continue to save the church from ingress of water for at least another 100 year - hopefully even 200 years.!
Heart felt thankyou again!
